Writing while not waking Winifred.

It’s been a little over a year since I started this blog up again. I was pregnant, and oh so unaware of how time really works while having a baby to take care of. I spend most of my time laying next to her while she sleeps. That being said let’s not get into the whys of how my baby sleeps, there are too many child sleep opinions on the internet for my taste.

Suffice to say, I’m now on my phone a lot more than I would like to be. This year I struggled with this and used a multitude of strategies to combat it. App restrictions, deleting or disabling accounts, to dubbing my phone a glorified e-reader all worked to some extent.

I read a bunch of books this past year (mostly on my phone), I wrote a children’s book manuscript and started a novel (both completely on my phone)! All while breastfeeding or trying not to wake Winifred.

So in another effort to be more productive on said device I’m returning to my blog. Being a stay at home mom (SAHM as they say) can be truly lonely. On top of this, I’m now living on the other side of the country, am surrounded by more fluffy white snow than I’ve ever seen in my life, and know not a soul.

What I’m getting at here is that social media can often be anything but social & I'd like to start using my phone as a communication device. Though blogging is sort of like tearing out pages from your journal and folding paper airplanes then sending them out the window to who knows where, sometimes someone picks it up and reads it. From my bed next to my baby in an apartment in the snow, to your screen whoever you are, I hope these words make you feel seen. And I hope you see me too.

Taking a break from social media.

I've made the decision to take a break from scrolling feeds. The monotony, the fear of missing out, the stress of not posting enough of the right kind of image at the right time has taken its toll. I'm not the first to do this, so I already know it will be good for me.

I will come back when I have figured out exactly what I want to say and share with the sea of anonymity that is my current audience. I will come back when I figure out what it means to me to have an audience. I want to see what I can create without the pressure or expectation of posting it.

News will be posted here. I hope some of you stick with me. If not, may your tea stay warm and may faeries reveal themselves precisely when you need them to.

If We Could Find Another Way: book release!

My latest children's book project, If We Could Find Another Way, is going to be released on July 2nd! It was written by Hélène Defossez with the aim to show children (and adults) that there is a gentler way to find our food. In the story, Tim the elf makes friends with the animals he sets out to bring home for dinner and ultimately learns that his life can be better served sharing with the animals around him, instead of taking.

I was so honored to be able to collaborate with Hélène and illustrate this story. She was so patient and gave me tons of freedom to take this story to a beautiful place. I learned so much in drawing Tim and his animal friends. I can't wait for the world to have it in their hands and read it!

If you wish to buy the book, please do so on Amazon on July 2nd. This will help the rankings. Thank you!

Here are some images from the story:

It's my hope that all can benefit from a story like this, a vision of a gentler world, especially now. In a world so full of cruelty and despair, let us teach our children that we can be better, that there is another way.
